A letter from a grandmother to her newly born granddaughter

, Family

“I do not claim that I know everything about life, but after all, I’m your grandmother and I want you to be happy. And my pieces of advice for you won’t do you bad.”

“Dear granddaughter, I could’ve written this letter quarter of a century before, for your mother… But then I was twenty-five-years old and had other problems to take care of: how to feed the family, whether I would manage to take my child to kindergarten and still arrive on time for lectures.

Your grandfather worked night shifts and couldn’t help me when your mother was sick all night. Now that I’m fifty and have a bit more experience that I would like to share with you. I do not claim that I know everything about life, but after all, I’m your grandmother and I want you to be happy. And my pieces of advice won’t do you harm.

Do not be afraid of Falling

Play, slide and drive a bicycle and don’t be afraid of falling. It might hurt, but at the same time you will learn to be back on your feetquicker.

Do not be afraid to show character.

It is not your obligation to stay silent if you don’t like something and you don’t agree with something. Don’t hide your opinion for friendship or love. If they don’t listen to your opinion or they want you to stay loyal – snap out of that relationship and that love.

Do not be ashamed to apologize

Only brave girls are able to say “I’m sorry” and perceive their mistakes and I would like you to be that girl.  It is not easy to admit “Sorry, I was wrong. How can I fix the situation?” Well, this should be learned, and the person who learns that will win.

Do not be afraid to have bad scores

Getting a bad score is not the most terrible thing. The grade shows your weak points and reveals what you need to work on. Bad scores doesn’t mean you’re stupid. That should be a motivation for you to work.

Do not be afraid of being unpopular

While all the popular girls go to school parties, and spend time uploading photos on the internet, you can go learn singing or some sport. 18 years later they will still stay in front of the computer and you will conquer the world.

Do not be afraid of others thinking you’re strange

Because even your grandmother isn’t.

Do not be afraid of falling in love

Love will come once. You need to remember to be happy for growing up.

Do not be afraid of the first kiss

Trust your grandma, it will be amazing!

Do not be afraid to marry or not to marry

When you grow up, nobody should care if you have a diamond on your finger or not. However, if you decide that marriage and family life is for you, make sure you wait until you meet the man of your life and everything will be fine.

Do not be afraid of giving birth

I will not lie to you, you will feel pain. But that is the most beautiful thing that could happen to a woman.

Do not be afraid of getting a divorce

Anything can happen in life. The most important thing to remember is not to be desperate. Divorce is not the end of life. It is the beginning of something new and most likely, more interesting and better.

Do not be afraid of loneliness

Sometimes it will be useful. You could even enjoy loneliness. But, loneliness doesn’t last for long in the family – I know us.

Do not be afraid to cry

Brave people choose to cry. I’m brave and I’m doing what I want.

Do not be afraid to try something new

Do not think about how many years you have left. Take the best of life no matter how irrational it is, if you want it.

Do not be afraid of getting old

You will start to appreciate your years more and more. And some day you might write a letter to your grandchildren.

Do not be afraid of losing someone close

I hesitated whether to write this for a long time. But loss is imminent. People leave but love remains….

Love,

Your grandma.”
